After many years of outsourcing document management and collaboration solutions, York’s North American and Latin American regions decided to manage its IT infrastructure in-house. This included workflow, content management and collaboration tools that would maximize employee efficiency across functional, geographic and organizational boundaries. Upgrading and enhancing storage and backup capabilities to manage a rapidly growing volume of data also became a key priority. A new Storage Area Network (SAN), would not only provide centralized management, but would also allow for future expansion and business growth. In order to minimize business disruption, York wanted to complete the project within an aggressive 5-month time period.
With a streamlined RFP process for a new SAN, York needed a reliable storage solution, as well as a responsive and knowledgeable solution provider to accelerate implementation, Essextec was able to respond rapidly, working closely with IBM and York International to integrate an IBM SAN solution which included an IBM tape library with Tivoli Storage Manager and IBM TotalStorage DS4500 storage server with five EXP710 fibre channel storage drawers and two EXP100 serial ATA storage drawers.
York was able to bring its document management and collaboration tools in-house five weeks ahead of schedule and quickly pursued other IT migration projects that required large storage capacity and centralized data management. In addition to greater flexibility, reliability, and accessibility, York’s new SAN solution delivered greater availability of business applications, which allowed York to be more responsive to its customers.
